I have a very old (1972) pool on the eastside, which is notorious for it's shifting clay soil. Needless-to-say, I've had tons of problems through the years and have worked with many different pool repair companies. That is, until I discovered Austech. They are HANDS DOWN, the best in town. They recommended a new technology to re-surface my pool (Aquafin) which literally shifts and expands as the cracks do. Not only has it worked great for the past 3 years, but my pool looks beautiful. Plaster would have just cracked again. (They also did a stellar job sealing all of the cracks prior to installing the aquafin coating.) Darren, Ray, Celia, and their employees could not be nicer nor better informed. They've come out multiple times on their own dime to check on things when I've had other problems unrelated to their repairs. Recently, I had to replace the old cleaning line and Ray gave me several options to improve my system at no extra cost while they were at it. I am currently watching one of their employees cleaning all of the leaves from the bottom of the pool as he waits for the water to get low enough to finish the repair. (NOT part of his job description!) These guys don't ever sit around idle. Once, I had a malfunction which was due to a part failure (not their fault), and they promptly came out and re-did the entire (labor intensive and expensive) job for free- no questions/ no hassle. They stand by their workmanship and their guarantees. And they stand by their word, which is unfortunately not all that common in pool repair companies. They have also pioneered some state-of-the-art technologies in leak detection and reparation. Despite the excellent caliber of their work and materials, their prices are very competitive. The re-surfacing cost me about $3000 less than I was quoted by two other companies to re-plaster, and had a longer guarantee (5 years!) I can't say enough good things about these guys! - Katie T. from Austin, TX
I have used Austech twice now, both times have been a prime example of how you wish every service company in the world treated you. They know when you have a leak it's stressful and try their best to get right out to check it out. Also, they are the experts - Darren has improved upon the equipment and he sells his improved equipment to others as well as training others - but why go to the student when you can get the professor for the same price or less. It always seems like a lot money to have a leak detected, but Darren and his team find it and then provide a quote on repairs if you are interested. I've had a skimmer replaced, and most recently cracks in the pool floor repaired. They are the nicest people. I highly recommend them - now if only they'd do A/C, irrigation, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and roofing I'd be set for life. - Mark from Austin, TX
The Austech folks were all great to work with. They quickly found the leak that had been vexing us for over a year (in fact, 2 leaks) and then provided a quote for repair. Honestly, the quote might have been a little high, but we really liked the knowledge and confidence they showed in working with our pool system. They worked really quickly to repair the leak completely and even put our brick patio and yard back into place so that you can not even tell the work was done (and, yes, I saw the work actually happen in deep holes dug to get to the pipes). A week later, we are celebrating the fact that we are not having to refill our pool everyday. Great people to work with and highly recommend them. - Stephen from Austin, TX
I wasn't very happy when another leak detection company found one leak with die and left. Only after their 30 day warranty expired did I find I had more leaks. Austech checked my pool thoroughly with underwater listening gear, die and pressure. They found 3 leaks. All of them wasting water and costing me money. Now that I know where the water has been going I can take action. Knowing it can be fixed makes me happy. They suggested I close off the old return lines and put in a new line with return jet fittings that screw together instead of glue together. They encouraged me to get other quotes on repair work which I'm doing now. These guys took the time to do it right. Soon, I hope to have my pool full again and enjoying it. - Charles Mitchell from Austin, TX
I knew there was a leak in the pool, called a few companies, kept getting referred to Austech. Glad i did. Owner came out, checked the pipes and everything else, found the leak, made the repairs and now i don't have any more leaks. - Tony Durant from Austin, TX
Homeowners of the Pemberton Heights area in Austin, Texas have been dealing with standing water in their backyards for months on end. No one, not even the City of Austin can resolve the issue. Homeowners are frustrated and infuriated by the issue.
The City of Austin contacted Austin Water Utility to get some answers to resolve this delinquent issue. They performed extensive testing – all inconclusive. They then hired an independent contractor to conduct sonar testing on the main water lines – those tests resulted inconclusive as well.
KXAN News who has been following and reporting on this story since the beginning decided to take matters into its own hands and hire on Austin’s premier leak detection firm: Austech Leak Detection (that’s us!).
It did not take long for Darren Merlob (owner) and his team to get a hold of the problem. When residents learned of Austech’s findings, they were elated.
Darren Merlob says: “We dug in a few suspect areas, but when we hit the motherload, the area right before it runs downhill, we knew right away,” he told KXAN.
Merlob said the water could be coming from a couple of sources, but the main problem appears to be from a wastewater line. “This water over here smells like sewage, it needs to be tested and taken from that point on.”
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story, and in the meantime watch the video above.
