Does Your Pool Leak?
“I’m adding water to my pool every week. I swear I have a leak!”
Depending on the climate in your local area, it is not unusual to be losing a 1/8″ of pool water a day due to evaporation. This means almost 1″ a week! The biggest factors affecting this are humidity, wind, and air and water temperature.
To find out if you do have a leak in your swimming pool, fill a bucket with water from the pool and set it on the steps of your pool with the top of the bucket above water level. This will keep the water in the bucket the same temperature as the pool. If you do not have steps, you can try balancing the bucket on the top ladder tread. Now, compare the water loss between the bucket and your pool over a period of several days, the longer the better. We are assuming that your bucket doesn’t have a hole in it! If you see a difference, you have a leak.
